Join us for another First Friday Happy Hour at the Officers’ Club this Friday, February 1, between 3:00 and 6:00 p.m.

To give OSCWI members, prospective members, and their families an opportunity to meet each other on a more regular basis, we’re holding OSCWI First Fridays! Every first Friday of the month, OSCWI invites members and non- (but hopefully soon-to-be!) members to mingle during the M.T. McCormick’s Officers’ Club’s happy hour, which runs weekly on Fridays, 3-6 PM. Join us for a drink, meet some fellow spouses, and perhaps even turn it into a date night with your special service member.

The OSCWI wants to thank everyone who supported our efforts in raising money for the Coast Guard families stationed at the Bangor/Kitsap Naval Base. Through your generous donations, we were able to raise $4,306, in addition to a lot of baby food, formula, diapers, and other toiletries. One of our board members was able to deliver all of our proceeds directly to the four Coast Guard units on base today.

Thank you again to all the individuals who donated, both from our local community and from across the United States. We also want to give a special thank you to the Naval Air Station Whidbey Island Chief Petty Officers’ Spouses Association, who helped us get the word out and generously donated to our efforts.

If you would still like to donate, please visit the USO Northwest online. Click on the top right, red button that says DONATE, and you will be taken to a donation page where you can specify that you would like to donate to the Coast Guard.

Thanks again. We are humbled to be able to organize such an effort to help our military family.

    Sincerely,

    The OSCWI Board

Update 01/28/2019 – Thanks to the support of our amazing community, we were able to raise over $4,300 in Commissary and Safeway gift cards, which are being taken to Bangor/Kitsap today. We have been so honored to be able to organize such an effort to support other military families. Although the OSCWI is no longer collecting, if you would like to continue to support Coast Guard families in this way, you may donate through the USO.

    From the OSCWI President:

I am emailing today to call your attention to other military families in need. As you know, the government is in partial shutdown and the US Coast Guard is not currently being paid. Although we don’t have Coast Guard personnel at NASWI, local Naval Base Bangor/Kitsap has about 100 Coast Guard Personnel and their families. As it is part of our mission to support our spouses and support our community, I feel we have the opportunity to extend a hand and help these fellow military families who may be struggling to make ends meet during their postponed paychecks. This base has done many things to help these families, but the families could use some extra support.

I have been able to reach out to an administrator of the Coast Guard Bangor/Kitsap Community Facebook page who got me in touch with their Command Master Chief. I have received a mailing address on base and a list of what they currently need. They are asking for infant formula, diapers, feminine napkins, and all types of food. However, it may be more helpful to donate grocery gift cards to be distributed to their four units on base so families can buy what they need.

If you are able to help, please consider purchasing gift cards (with amounts in $20 increments) to either Safeway or the Commissary and dropping off the cards or other items at one of the three locations listed below [removed 01/28/2019]. If you prefer, you can also make a monetary donation toward this effort, and OSCWI board members will purchase cards with your donation.

As this is a time sensitive project, we will be collecting these items by Saturday, January 26th and delivering them to the Bangor Base on Monday, January 28th.

If you feel comfortable sharing this information to other military friends who are looking to help please feel free to forward this email and my contact information.

It is truly an honor to be able to reach out to you and organize an effort to help support other military families. Thank you in advance for all your help and allowing the OSCWI to be a group that can make a difference in our community.

    Sincerely,

    Teresa Leisenring
    OSCWI President
